Senior Research and Teaching Associate (PostDoc)
with a focus on Internet Use and Society

The Department of Communication and Media Research at the University of Zurich is one of the leading international research institutions in its field. This postdoctoral scholar position is within the group “Internet Use and Society” led by Professor Eszter Hargittai. The group is especially interested in the relationship of Internet use and social inequality.

Your responsibilities:

  • Active participation in the group’s research projects
  • Planning and execution of high-quality research studies
  • Publication in leading communication journals and presenting at international conferences
  • Teaching one course per semester and mentoring junior colleagues
  • Academic service

Your profile:

  • PhD in Communication Studies or a related social science
  • Strong interest in understanding how people incorporate digital media into their lives and with what consequences
  • Advanced skills in quantitative methods of empirical social science, skills with Stata and/or R preferred
  • Excellent written and spoken English

  • The University of Zurich offers attractive employment conditions and remuneration according to Swiss cantonal guidelines. Annual gross salary will be approx. 87,000 Swiss Francs (~EUR90,000/~USD96,000).
  • The position is available from Summer 2025.

Start of employment:

  • The position is initially limited to two years and can be extended by another two plus two years for a total of six years.
  • The position is available from Summer 2025.
